Artificial Grass

MCH Landscaping lays artificial grass for homes and businesses in Lowestoft and across Norfolk and Suffolk.

A green lawn without the mowing

Artificial grass gives you a lawn that stays green all year without mowing, watering or feeding. It suits shady gardens where real grass struggles, small gardens that get heavy use, and anyone who would rather spend the weekend in the garden than working on it.

We lay artificial grass for lawns, children’s play areas and pet-friendly gardens, for homes and businesses. The quality of the finished lawn depends on what is underneath it, so most of the work is in preparing a firm, free-draining base.

Artificial grass is not the answer for every garden. Real grass stays cooler in summer, supports more wildlife and suits a large open lawn, so it is worth weighing the two. Many gardens mix them: artificial grass for the small, busy or shady areas and real turf, borders and planting elsewhere.

What an artificial lawn includes

  • Removing the old lawn

Lifting the existing turf and soil to the depth the new base needs, and taking it away.

  • A free-draining base

A compacted sub-base and a fine laying course, levelled so the finished lawn is flat and drains.

  • Weed membrane

A membrane to stop weeds coming up through the grass.

  • Edging

A firm edge so the lawn holds its shape against borders, paths and patios.

  • Laying and joining

The grass rolled out, cut to shape and joined so the seams do not show.

  • Brushing and finishing

The pile brushed up, with infill where the product needs it, and the site cleared.

What to plan before artificial grass

  • Drainage

Water has to get through the grass and away. On clay soil or in a low spot, the base may need extra drainage.

  • Pets

Pet urine drains through artificial grass, but the area should be rinsed regularly. A pet-friendly product and a well-draining base help keep smells down.

  • Heat and reflected sun

Artificial grass gets warm in strong sun, and sunlight reflected from some windows can damage it. Look at where the sun falls and what is nearby.

  • How it meets the rest of the garden

Think about the edges: borders, paths, patios and steps all need a clean line for the grass to finish against.

Good to know

  • It still needs a little care

Brush it now and then to keep the pile upright, clear leaves, and rinse areas pets use.

  • Keep heat away

Barbecues, fire pits and dropped cigarettes can melt the fibres. Put them on paving instead.

  • Pile height is a choice

Longer pile looks lusher; shorter pile is harder-wearing for play. Samples help you decide.

  • Good for shade and heavy use

Artificial grass copes where real grass struggles: under trees, in narrow side gardens and where children play every day.

How an artificial grass job works

  1. Consultation and planning

We visit, measure and talk through who uses the lawn, from children to dogs, and your budget.

  2. Design and material selection

We agree the shape and edges and help you choose the grass.

  3. Installation

We remove the old lawn, build and level the base, and lay and join the grass.

  4. Finishing touches and aftercare

We brush and finish the lawn, clear up, and tell you how to look after it.

Questions customers ask

Is artificial grass good for dogs?

Yes, with the right base. Urine drains through, and rinsing the area regularly keeps it fresh. A pet-friendly product helps.

Can artificial grass go in a play area?

Yes. It gives a soft, mud-free surface for play, and we have laid it around play towers and slides.

Does artificial grass need any maintenance?

A little. Brush it to keep the pile upright, clear leaves and debris, and rinse areas that pets use.

Will it drain properly?

It should, if the base is right. Most of the work goes into a firm, free-draining base so water runs through rather than pooling.

Can I have a barbecue on artificial grass?

It is best not to. Barbecues, fire pits and hot embers can melt the fibres, so keep them on paving.

Do you lay artificial grass for businesses?

Yes. We lay artificial grass for homes and businesses.
